The support of disabled people in disasters

Štěpán Vymětal

Disabled people were an ignored group for a long time during planning a reaction to a state of emergency, not only from the point of view of the crisis management but also from the by other specialists. In the context of disasters, the crisis communication and psychosocial intervention to disabled people seems very unequal, disunited and mostly in its beginnings.

The task of European projects EUNAD and EUNAD-IP (implementation) is to improve this situation and to arrange materials for a better preparation of involved firemen, policemen, medics, providers of psychosocial support during a state of emergency and other specialists in the area of mental health and also for the preparation of organizations uniting disabled people.
