Stabilizing the Cochem model within the system: Education as first aid in parental conflict
Abstract
This article describes the development of the past ten years in the field of divorce and separation of parents with minor children in the Czech Republic. It traces the journey from the initial attempts to introduce interdisciplinary cooperation (the so-called Cochem model) to current integration of some of its elements into practice, finalised by recent legislative changes. The text describes key shifts, such as the reduction in the length of custody proceedings, a significant decrease in the use of expert evidence, the evolving role of the guardian ad litem, and the emergence of the new profession of court social worker. The central theme is the presentation of an innovative educational webpage, „Rodičem po rozvodu“ (Parenting After Divorce), which serves as a psycho-social-legal support guide for parents and a methodological tool for professionals working with families in post-divorce or post-separation situations. The author emphasizes the importance of timely information and the strengthening of specific parenting competencies as crucial factors in eliminating the negative impacts of family breakdown on the child.
